Optimizing Videos

If you notice that your playlists are loading slowly, it's likely that your media files, particularly videos, are contributing to the issue. Video files can be large and often cause lagging. Optimizing your videos for display on your screens can significantly improve playlist performance. We recommend checking and resizing your videos before uploading them to your TelemetryTV media repository.

To optimize your videos, consider the following factors:

Resolution

The resolution of your video affects its file size. Resolution is measured by the number of pixels in width x height. Common screen resolutions include 1920 x 1080 pixels (1080p) and 3840 x 2160 pixels (4K). Resize your videos to match the resolution of your screen. For example, avoid displaying a 4K video on a 1920px x 1080px screen; instead, resize it to a width of 1920px.

Audio

If you won't be using audio in your display, consider removing it from your video file. Removing audio can significantly reduce the file size.

Bitrate

A video's bitrate, measured in Mbps (megabits per second), determines the amount of information transmitted per second. This has a direct impact on file size. Adjusting bitrate requires more advanced knowledge, so we recommend researching how to adjust it if you wish to explore this option.

Keeping Copies Original Videos

Keep copies of your original video and name your new, resized copies based on their resolution. This way, you'll have them ready when you upgrade from a 1080p to a 4K screen!
